Tau Beta Sigma - Member (All) and Ritualist (2014-15)

October 2013-May 2016

Tau Beta Sigma is a national honorary coed band sorority with the mission of promoting leadership recognition and development, service of the ensemble and music, and nurturing of the whole individual. The sorority normally operates within the band-related ensembles of each university, but also stretches out to perform service projects within the community.

As Ritualist for the 2014-15 academic year, I managed the performance of my chapter’s Ritual, kept our chapter educated regarding it, digitally documented all events, and led the presentation in March of my chapter's Ritual for the six-state Midwest District Convention. At the end of the term, I and the Ritual committee pitched in to create our chapter's annual scrapbook, comprised of photos I had taken over the year.

University of Minnesota Marching Band

Piccolo Player

August 2013-December 2015

One of my best decisions — three years, over 320 friends, tens of thousands of calories burned, hundreds of performances, thousands of hours, and three Bowl games across the nation.

Student Media Member

September 2014-December 2015

Possibly the second-best choice I made at the U of M (the first being joining the marching band to begin with). It was here that I met some amazing lifelong friends, peers, and coworkers; had a blast creating videos representing the Band; and was continually inspired by the creativity and determination of those around me. I couldn't have found a better place to learn about the world of creating video content.

UMFA had an urgent need for a grant writer during one of their busiest grant seasons, so I helped fill that need by writing this narrative for a Community Arts grant with the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council (MRAC). We were awarded that grant, and it allows UMFA to continue hosting their annual Flute Fest in 2020.

North Community High School - Volunteer

February 2014-May 2014

The newly-inducted classes of Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma, co-ed band fraternity and sorority, respectively, joined together and decided to go beyond class projects that had been done before. After several brainstorming sessions, we began laying the groundwork for a long-term volunteering relationship with North Community High School, a nearby educational institution with a fledgling music program.

Throughout spring term, I went into North's band class period and worked one-on-two with the flute players there. Often we had sectional time in which I would work with them on any difficulties they were encountering with the instrument or music.

The Music Boosters are a nonprofit organization that raise appreciation for the music and artistic community in Montevideo through fundraising and local event.
