Grab N' Go Breakfast at Hmong International Academy
I edited together previously-shot footage to create this video showcasing one of Minneapolis’s first Breakfast After the Bell programs in partnership with Second Harvest Heartland. This video was shown at the Minnesota state capitol as part of the push to draft a Breakfast After the Bell bill.
UMmb 2014 short promo
"pride and pageantry"
These two videos were created in order to promote the University of Minnesota Marching Band (UMMB) to prospective students for the fall 2015 season. The first served as teaser to the second, and an edited version was shown at home University of Minnesota football games right before pregame (much like a football team's promo videos).
The feature is dedicated to Robert Brau, one of our band family members who was tragically hit and killed by a distracted driver.
As part of the UMMB Student Media crew that created this, I assisted mainly with filming, lighting, and concept creation. Because of the highly collaborative nature of these projects, everyone on the crew has her or his fingerprints in every aspect of production.
I personally learned mountains about:
Project and time management: These videos took over four months to conceptualize, film, and create, and were completed while juggling a part-time job, five classes and, of course, marching band.
Collaboration: All creators have their own opinions and talents, and when everyone is allowed to find their niche and express their gifts in the most productive way, the final product is extraordinary.
Lighting: I lit for the interviews that took place in the stadium, such as the first interview shown in the feature.
Cinematography, audio recording and editing
"Signs"
While investigating noises in the night in his office building, Joe stumbles upon a crime scene and must run for his life as the suspects give chase.
This short film is the second film I worked on, and the first in which I had instruction on how to perform each aspect of production. It is the culmination of an eight-week long Cinema Production 1 course at the Independent Filmmaker Project (now FilmNorth) in St. Paul, Minnesota.
I contributed as a screenwriter, actress, storyboard artist and editor and also stretched my skills in writing, lighting and mock fighting.
"Here's My Card"
Eilleen Diness receives a visit from a prospective suitor, but there may be something dark lurking beneath the roses and charm...
The first video I worked on, this is a short film created for the “Serial Killer” genre for the 2014 48 Hour Horror Film Project.
I assisted in multiple aspects of film production, including concept creation, screenwriting, storyboarding, lighting and editing—the whole 48 Hour Film Project experience. Everyone except the lead male actor was a college student, so we managed to throw this together on a budget of thin air and free light box rentals from our university.
