ACTIVITIES

Music Listening Contest

  • My team placed 4th at State in 2012.

  • Exclusive to Minnesota, this contest requires participants in teams of three to compete by memorizing composer names and pieces, by being able to identify pieces by an audio sample, and by knowing other random yet fun pieces of musical information.

Tau Beta Sigma

  • TBS is a national honorary band (coed) sorority with the mission of promoting leadership recognition and development, service of the ensemble and music, and nurturing of the whole individual. The sorority normally operates within the band-related ensembles of each university, but also stretches out to perform service projects within the community.

  • As Ritualist for the 2014-15 academic year, I managed the performance of TBS's Ritual, kept our chapter educated regarding it, digitally documented all events, and led the presentation in March of the chapter's Ritual for the six-State Midwest District Convention May 2015.

Montevideo Jazz Band

  • Played trumpet for two years

SKILLS

Piano and Accompanying

  • Over 8 years of playing (self-taught)

  • Accompanied my high school choir on two pieces

Composing and Arranging

  • Over 7 years of Finale Software experience

  • Arranged over 20 songs for personal use, including a quartet of “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey, which was performed at Homecoming in 2012

Music Theory

  • I've taken Music Theory three times, and received an A every time. I first took it in high school and excelled at the AP Exam, but my first college, Luther, required that I take its personal brand of theory. When I transferred to the University of Minnesota, the administration there said the same thing but fortunately allowed me to test out of Theory I. I know counterpoint and the rules of part-writing like the back of my hand!
